Best Scalloped Potatoes

Ingredients:

4 large potatoes, thinly sliced 🥔
2 cups heavy cream 🧴
2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or gruyere) 🧀
1 onion, sliced 🧅
2 cloves garlic, minced 🧄
Salt and pepper, to taste 🧂
2 tablespoons butter 🧈
1 tablespoon fresh thyme (optional) 🌿
Instructions:

1️⃣ Prepare the Potatoes:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
Layer the thinly sliced potatoes and onions in the dish.
2️⃣ Make the Cream Sauce:

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
Add the heavy cream, salt, and pepper, stirring until well combined.
Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, allowing the cream to thicken slightly.
3️⃣ Assemble the Dish:

Pour the cream sauce evenly over the potatoes and onions.
Sprinkle with shredded cheese, making sure to cover everything evenly.
Optionally, sprinkle fresh thyme on top.
4️⃣ Bake the Scalloped Potatoes:

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.
